HUMBOLDT/MENDOCINO – Major roadwork projects in Humboldt and Mendocino counties may be getting started sooner than expected.

The California Transportation Commission has authorized close to $690 million to speed up the process on 32 pending Caltrans highway pavement projects.

Over $17.5 million of that will go towards projects in Humboldt and over $47 million to projects in Mendocino.

Humboldt pavement improvements will be made on about 114 miles of Highway 101 – southern Humboldt, from the Englewood Park undercrossing to the Eel River Bridge, and in the Trinidad area, from just north of the Big Lagoon Bridge to School Road in McKinleyville.

“Just like anything in life, if you want to keep it good, you’ve got to maintain it. Our highways need maintenance,” explained Caltrans District 1 Public Information Officer, Myles Cochrane, “We’ve been able to take some things that are on the back burner and do them right now.”

Funding for the projects is to come through SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
